Best Friends Animal Society

“Save Them All”

This is Mayzie, a Boxer-Pit Bull mix that we adopted in 2005. Our lives have been enriched by her sweetness and love of swimming in the pool!

We were so sad to learn that every day, more than 9,000 animals die in our nation’s animal shelters, simply because they don’t have safe places to call home.

The mission of Best Friends Animal Society is to end the killing in America's animal shelters and create a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. They do this by building community programs and partnerships all across the nation.

In 2012 Best Friends Animal Society launched No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA), an initiative to achieve no-kill in America's second-largest city. By 2013 Los Angeles reduced the amount of animals being killed in shelters by 50 percent, on track to make the city no-kill by 2017.

In addition to this amazing achievement, Best Friends has been doing great work increasing awareness about the fight against puppy mills and ending breed discrimination, which is an issue that is close to our hearts! Our sweet Mayzie is clearly part Pit Bull, but her adoption papers officially listed her as a Boxer-Hound mix because of the discrimination that the Pit Bull Terrier breed endures. She is more gentle and loving than our Shih-Tzu!

Pets are such an important part of our everyday lives. They’re our silent friends who always know when we need some extra TLC. Together with our donations to Best Friends Animal Society, you are helping to bring about a time when there are no homeless pets. We can Save Them All.

Best Friends Animal Society is a 4-Star Ranked organization by Charity Navigator and received a Gold Badge from Guide Star. You can read more about the work of Best Friends Foundation and how you can get more involved on their website. http://bestfriends.org/
